Brent Crude (BZ=F) Deep Dive | Bullish — Backwardation Tightness, Target 113.3 | 2026-10-31
Bullish Brent (BZ=F, BZF27.NYM): hold longs while the 10-29 settle at 110.8 holds above 109.29; a daily settle below 109.29 invalidates. Three pillars: (1) supply tightness is being priced, not speculated — EIA crude stocks at 410,625 kb are -3.8% vs the 5-year same-week average after a -1,892 kb w/w draw, distillates are -9.4% vs average, and the M1-M2 Brent backwardation of 4.08 (3.68%) confirms real prompt scarcity, not a paper squeeze; (2) the trend is intact on the daily — settle 110.8 [2026-10-29] is +12.57% on 20D and sits at 89.8% of the 20D range (93.82–112.63, ex-today), with ATR14 at 3.44 (3.1% of price) defining normal risk; (3) positioning is not crowded and optionality is not expensive — money-manager length is well below multi-year highs while ^OVX at 58.48 sits above RV20 at 25.8%, so options are paying up for event risk but the underlying move is not extended. The bearish caveats are real: gasoline built +3,870 kb w/w and the 20-session seasonal window averages -3.12% (context only, small sample). But with refinery utilization at 92.8% and distillates -9.4% vs average, the backwardated curve is the dominant signal. Trade: long on strength above 110.54 (NEXT pivot), targeting 113.3 (NEXT R2); invalidation on a daily settle below 109.29 (NEXT S1).
