Brent Crude (BZ=F) Deep Dive | Bullish breakout confirmed, backwardation validates tight prompt | 2026-11-02
Bullish Brent (BZ=F, front-month BZF27.NYM): the 2026-10-30 settle of 113.43 broke above the prior 20-day high of 112.63, and with ATR14 at 3.35 the breakout has room to run; invalidation is a daily settle below the NEXT pivot at 112.92. Three pillars support the call. First, price action: the settle is +2.37% on the day, +1.55% over five sessions and +14.91% over 20 sessions, with the 20-day channel at 94.71–114.29 and the settle in the 95.6% percentile of that range — a trend, not a squeeze. Second, fundamentals: EIA crude stocks at 410,625 kb (2026-10-23) are -3.8% vs the five-year same-week average on a four-week cumulative draw of -16,695 kb, distillates are -9.4% vs average, and refinery utilization is 92.8%, while the M1–M2 backwardation of 4.21 (3.71%) with a roll yield of 44.54% confirms genuine physical tightness rather than speculative premium. Third, positioning and cross-asset: OVX at 58.48 sits well above RV20 at 26.5%, and the oil/gold ratio at 0.0267 is at its 1-year 100th percentile. Seasonality is a headwind (mean -1.95% over the next 20 sessions, 6 of 15 years up), which argues for discipline on the invalidation level rather than against the trend.
