Gold (GC=F) Deep Dive | Bearish — 20-Day Low Break, Crowded Longs, Rich IV | 2026-11-02
We are bearish COMEX gold (GCZ26): the [settle 2026-10-30] 3898.9 print broke below the prior 20-day low of 3989.1 (ex-today), confirming a downside channel break, and we target 3779.9 (NEXT S2) on a daily close below 3839.4 (NEXT S1); invalidation is a daily close back above 3938.8 (NEXT P). The bearish call rests on three pillars. First, price action: 1D -3.29%, 5D -2.72%, 20D -6.33% [settle], with ATR14 at 74.95 (1.92% of price) and RV20 at 19.1% — the settle is at the very bottom of the 20-day range 3879.3–4242.3 (position 5.4%), and the last completed week (2026-10-26–10-30) closed -2.72% w/w at 3898.9 after a 4097.2 high. Second, positioning is crowded and stale: CFTC managed-money net length as of 2026-10-27 is 105,562 contracts with a 3-year crowding percentile of 90.23 — a crowded long cohort into a downtrend, with net length falling while price fell (no divergence, just liquidation so far). Third, cross-asset relative value argues for gold underperformance: copper/gold at 1.66 (1Y percentile 100%) and oil/gold at 0.0267 (1Y percentile 100%) show gold rich versus pro-growth and energy commodities; gold/silver at 79.12 (1Y percentile 94.05%) confirms silver outperforming. Fundamentally, GLD holdings fell -1.41% over 20 sessions and COMEX registered stocks slipped to 14.81 Moz — demand indicators are softening, not supporting. With ^GVZ at 26.15 versus RV20 19.1% (IV/RV 1.37), optionality is expensive, favoring futures over options for the short.
